Everything Alive Here is Dead: An exercise in listening
2020

——connectivity, interwoveness, messy tangles and disruption, this work seeks to reference at once both an uncertain and a certain future. Wires dangle, and branches reach, both seeking to pull power from a source to a needed destination. Hybridized and tangled the, incorporating small pieces of plastic taken from plastic construction material, a new material used to shrink wrap buildings for renovation in a building boom. Here in cut fragments holding drawings of acorns and then acorns themselves tenuously dangling from “dead” branches, or acorns replaced with vitamin tablets, or “charged” with iphone wires connected (without power) to a building that is connected to the land it occupies. Plugged in with an tangle of broken ear buds implying listening.
